The 2018 CPD cycle instituted under the CPD Regulation (Solicitors (Continuing Professional Development) Regulations, 2017) S.I. 529 of 2017 came into effect on the 1st January 2018 and runs for the calendar year 2019.

 

Every solicitor has a CPD requirement which includes a minimum of 3 hours management and professional development skills.

 

To meet that requirement this seminar will focus on the following key areas;

 

A warning about Property Fraud scams and advices on reducing risk

 

An update on cyber security issues and advices

 

A review of the forthcoming changes to solicitors advertising regulations.

 

Advices on client and practice management.

Rory O’Neill    Property Fraud; Cyber Security

Rory is an Investigating Accountant of the Law Society.  He is responsible for inspecting solicitor’s practices for compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Regulations Act, 2014 and reporting to the Regulation of Practice Committee.  He also advises on risks to practices associated with Cyber Security and Fraudulent dealings.

 

Barry O’Neill:  Client relations and Practice Management issues.

Barry is a solicitor recently retired who worked for 40 years, mostly in Eugene F Collins. During that time he developed client relationship skills and other techniques to improve the delivery of legal services. Barry is currently mentoring colleagues.

 

Niall Cawley, – An update on recent changes being introduced to Solicitors Advertising Regulations.

Niall is a member of the Council of the DSBA and has been Chair of the DSBA Practice Management Committee for the past four years. The Practice Management Committee has been tasked by the DSBA Council to review the current proposals on advertising and to consider the implications of any changes in this area.
