SPEAKERS

Simon Mills SC is a Senior Counsel whose practice has a particular emphasis on all aspects of medical law, including medical negligence, professional regulation, coroners law and mental health law. He is the co-author of two books: Medical Law in Ireland (3rd edn, 2018) and Disciplinary Procedures in the Statutory Professions (2nd edn in preparation). He is a law graduate of UCD and a medical graduate of TCD. He also holds an MSc in Medical Ethics from Imperial College London, where his thesis was on pluralist approaches to legislating for abortion (part-funded by a grant from the Fiona Bradley Foundation). He is a former chairperson of the of Mental Health Tribunals and the external examiner in Medical Law at the Law Society of Ireland.

 

Professor Jogin Thakore is a Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Psychiatry, at the Neuroscience Centre in St. Vincent’s Hospital Fairview, and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at TCD and Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry at RCSI. He obtained his Psychiatric Membership (MRCPsych) and PhD in Psychiatry from the University of London. On returning to Ireland, he was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (FRCPI). He frequently provides independent expert reports in medical negligence cases.

 

Eamon Harrington is a Partner in Comyn Kelleher Tobin and a CEDR Accredited Mediator. He is the Former Chairman of the Litigation Committee and the ADR Committee of the Law Society.  His practice focuses on healthcare law and dispute resolution, with particular experience in handling complex high value claims, including professional negligence, clinical negligence and commercial disputes. He regularly acts nationally as a Mediator and Arbitrator.
