The 2017 CPD cycle instituted under the CPD Regulation (Solicitors (Continuing Professional Development) Regulations, 2015) S.I. 480 of 2015 came into effect on the 1st January 2016 and runs for the calendar year of 2017.
Every solicitor who is a sole practitioner or a compliance partner and/or an anti-money laundering compliance partner now has a CPD requirement which includes a minimum of 3 hours regulatory matters at least 2 hours of which shall be accounting and anti-money laundering compliance matters all other solicitors must have a minimum of 2 hours regulatory matters.
This seminar will focus on the following key areas;
1. Money laundering legislation and the obligations of Solicitors.
2. Solicitors accounts regulations and Law Society Audits.
3. Revenue Inspection, revenue powers of inspection of clients affairs, the extent of revenue powers and the balance to be struck with the duties of a solicitor to protect client confidentiality.

Fiona Stanley is an Investigating Accountant of the Law Society. She is responsible for inspecting solicitors’ practices for compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Regulations, 2014 and reporting to the Regulation of Practice Committee.
Seamus McGrath, Head of Financial Regulation at the Law Society. Seamus is a Chartered Accountant, who first starting working for the Law Society of Ireland in 1991. He manages a team of professionals engaged in the financial regulation of the solicitors’ profession. His primary responsibilities include the investigation of solicitor’s practices for due compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Regulations and Solicitors ( Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Regulations, administration of claims on the Solicitors Compensation Fund and administration of reports accountants report.
Gráinne Duggan is a barrister specialising in tax law. Gráinne provides legal, advisory and advocacy services to a wide variety of clients including tax advisers, accountants and solicitors. She frequently litigates tax appeals before the Tax Appeals Commission. Gráinne is a Chartered Tax Adviser and a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
