The 2018 CPD cycle instituted under the CPD Regulation (Solicitors (Continuing Professional Development) Regulations, 2017) S.I. 529 of 2017 came into effect on the 1st January 2018 and continues to run for the calendar year of 2019

Every solicitor who is a sole practitioner or a compliance partner and/or an anti-money laundering compliance partner now has a CPD requirement which includes a minimum of 3 hours regulatory matters at least 2 hours of which shall be accounting and anti-money laundering compliance matters.

This seminar will focus on the following key areas;

1.         Anti-Money laundering compliance.

2.         Solicitors accounts regulations and Law Society Audits.

3.         The New complaints handling regime under the auspices of the  LSRA  arising from the   transfer to the LSRA from the Law Society and the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal of this        function under the provisions of the Legal Services Regulation Act, 2015.

Brian J Doherty, Chief Executive LSRA Complaints and the LSRA

Following 17 years in civilian oversight of policing in Ireland, Brian was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the new Legal Services Regulatory Authority in September 2017. The Legal Services Regulatory Authority when fully established will regulate the provision of legal services by legal practitioners and will also be responsible for ensuring the maintenance and improvement of standards in the provision of legal services in Ireland

Seamus McGrath, Head of Financial Regulation at the Law Society

Seamus is a Chartered Accountant, who first starting working for the Law Society of Ireland in 1991. He manages a team of professionals engaged in the financial regulation of the solicitors’ profession. His primary responsibilities include the  investigation of solicitor’s practices for due compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Regulations and Solicitors ( Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Regulations, administration of claims on the Solicitors Compensation Fund and administration of reports accountants report.

Jim Ryan

Jim Ryan is an Investigating Accountant of the Law Society.  He is responsible for inspecting solicitors’ practices for compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Regulations, 2014 and reporting to the Regulation of Practice Committee
