The Topics to be covered will include recent judgments from the Superior Courts on the cap on general damages and unusual defences such as S.35, recent developments in bullying and harassment cases, trends and landmark decisions in the area of defamation.

SPEAKERS

Micheál Ó Scanaill SC is one of our leading barristers in the areas of personal injury, insurance, chancery and commercial litigation.  Micheál will deliver a lecture dealing with some recent judgments concerning the cap on general damages in personal injury cases along with the proper application of S.35 of the Civil Liability Act 1961 which has been relied on in some recent interesting decisions.

 

Marguerite Bolger SC is recognised for her work in the areas of Judicial Review, Commercial and Chancery litigation.  Marguerite has been involved in so many seminal cases in the area of employment law that she has grown to be recognised among her peers as the foremost expert in this area.   Marguerite will bring us up to date on the most recent developments in the area of bullying and harassment claims and how the Courts deal with such claims.

 

John Doyle is a partner in Dillon Eustace, Solicitors, focusing on Litigation and Dispute Resolution, Arbitration, Mediation, Employment and Defamation.  John will offer an expert view on recent developments in defamation law and provide an insider account of the recent case of Denis O’Brien v The Sunday Business Post in which John acted for the successful defendant.
