The aim of this seminar is to inform practitioners about litigation in the area of corporate, regulatory and white collar crime legislation.


Chair: Mr Michael Staines, Solicitor

Michael Staines graduated from UCD with an Honours BCL in 1973 and two years later with an Honours Masters Degree in Law, having published a thesis on constitutional law. In between he qualified as a solicitor in 1974.
He then studied European Integration at the University of Amsterdam and attained a postgraduate Diploma, again having published his thesis on an aspect of Irish constitutional law and the EU Treaty. He commenced work as a solicitor in a civil practice in 1976 and two years later joined a criminal law practice, where he later became a partner. He set up the firm Michael J. Staines & Company in 1985. He has written many legal articles and has lectured extensively, particularly on criminal law. Michael has considerable experience in the area of fraud, Revenue, CAB and white collar crime prosecutions. He has appeared as an advocate in all courts.
He was a member of the Council of the Law Society of Ireland. He was chairman of the criminal law committee of the Law Society and is now a consultant to that committee. He has also served on other committees connected with criminal law



Remy Farrell SC: Remy Farrell was called to the bar in 1997 and the inner bar in 2011. His practice includes white collar crime, regulatory and professional disciplinary law, extradition and judicial review.


Shelley Horan BL:

Shelley Horan B.C.L (Hons), LLM (Corp and Comm Law Land) (Hons), BL (Hons) is a Barrister and CEDR Accredited Mediator based in Dublin and specialising in corporate and commercial law. She is the author of the legal textbook Corporate Crime (Bloomsbury Professional 2011) and two chapters in the academic textbook Zetzsche (ed) The Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive: European Regulation of Investment Funds (Wolters Kluwer, 2013). Shelley is also Chair of the Appeals Committee of Certified Public Accountants. Shelley has published and presented widely in the realm of corporate law and has engaged in a number of conferences and media discussions on the subject. Shelley was also the founder, Course Director and Principal Lecturer of the Advanced Diploma on Corporate, Regulatory and White Collar Crime in the Honorable Society of the King’s Inns and was an Adjunct Assistance Professor of Law at Trinity College Dublin.
