Seamus McGrath will speak about the Solicitors Accounts Regulations and Law Society inspections. He will deal with the issues that most commonly arise on inspections, the regulations that are most commonly breached, how the Law Society deals with solicitors who are in breach of the regulations and Controls which solicitors should have in place to avoid breaches of the regulations.
John Elliot will outline the new Regulations regarding succeeding practices and how they affect professional indemnity insurance requirements, run-off cover and related matters, a must for any firm considering merger or acquisition and any member considering retirement
Brendan Dillon will speak about his firm achieving the Lexcel Standard and its impact on his practice efficiency and profitability.
David Rowe will look to the future by reference to the proposed changes in the Legal Services Regulation Bill and consider practice overhead sharing arrangements, practice sale, acquisition and merger and the issues that arise for clients when considering the above.
David Phelan will speak on the issues that arose for his firm through two successful mergers in recent years.

SPEAKERS:
Seamus McGrath, Senior Investigating Accountant, Law Society of Ireland.
Seamus is the Law Society's Senior Investigating Accountant. He has carried out the investigation of over 400 solicitors’ practices. In early 2001 he took up a position with the Institute of Chartered Accountants, primarily investigating complaints by the public against members of the Institute. He returned to the Law Society in late 2005 to take up the position of Senior Investigating Accountant.

John Elliot, Registrar of Solicitors and Director of Regulation, Law Society of Ireland.
John qualified as a solicitor in 1983 and has worked for Burness LLP, Edinburgh, for private equity company 3i and as Law Agent, Company Secretary and a General Manager of ACCBank in Dublin. In 2004 he was appointed the Registrar of Solicitors and Director of Regulation of the Law Society of Ireland. He holds the statutory office of Registrar of Solicitors and manages the regulatory function of the Law Society. His responsibilities include management of complaints resolution, disciplinary proceedings, solicitors accounts regulations, compensation fund, professional indemnity insurance, roll of solicitors, practising certificates, practice closures and money laundering reporting.

Brendan Dillon, Solicitor.
Brendan is Principal at Dillon Solicitors, Nutgrove, Dublin 14 and the firm recently achieved the Lexcel Standard. Brendan is a member of the Guidance and Ethics Committee of the Law Society and DSBA Practice Management Committee, The Family Lawyers Association and the Irish Commercial Mediation Association. He is a former President of the Dundrum Chamber of Commerce and a former Chairman of the F.A.I. League of Ireland.

David Rowe, Director at Outsource.
David is a Chartered Accountant with a primary degree in law. He held the position of Finance Director at Matheson Ormsby Prentice for 10 years before leaving to set up Outsource in 2000. David provides on-going strategic, financial and management advice to hundreds of law firms in Ireland. He has also specialised in mergers, buying and selling firms and advising on profit sharing and other partnership issues. Outsource is a Law Society approved risk management provider.

David Phelan, Solicitor.
David is Managing Partner at Hayes Solicitors since May 2011. He was a Partner at the firm through two successful mergers in the last few years.
David practices primarily in the commercial and business law area, including regulatory matters, competition law and defamation. He is a member of the DSBA Business and Commercial Committee. http://www.hayes-solicitors.ie/
